Rowland Davidson
Rowland Davidson was born in Belfast in 1942 and is one of Northern Irelands best known artists. He studied Fine Art at the Belfast College of Fine Art where his tutors included John Luke and Tom Carr. He subsequently went on to teach art and design at a Belfast Boys School and not until he reached the age of 45 did he become a full-time artist which he describes as `a step of faith`. “As a student I had planned to become a full-time artist within six months of graduation, but over the years I found that career demands and the need to spend time with my family meant that I had miminal time for painting. When I eventually did become a full-time painter, it was through divine intervention” he says. Widely admired for his figurative works which display his characteristic love of light and shade, Rowland`s paintings are in high demand by collectors throughout Ireland and the UK. His work is held in many prestigious public and private collections.
